I recently bought myself a new Blackberry just to see what all the fuss was about. If you live or have ever been to London around the financial districts of The City and Canary Wharf having a Blackberry is almost a prerequisite, whereas if you head east to the trendier bars of Shoreditch where all the people several times cooler and with much tighter jeans than mine hang out, you’ll be sneered at for not having an Apple iPhone. So having tried both why did I suddenly switch to Blackberry? Well for the longest time I’d been communicating using a solid Sony Ericcson K810i for phoning and texting and an iPod Touch for Wi-Fi and App functions. Then I found myself in the Emirates where everyone seems to have Blackberries. Even 5 year old kids. Literally. So I bought myself one a few days ago and once I got past that initial infuriating learning curve (to be honest it was because I hadn’t set up my data plan yet but hey), I’ve grown to totally love it. Aesthetically, its not quite as appealing as the sleek touchscreen high design antics of the iPhone but in terms of functionality it does what it says and it does it very very well.
I was trying to find some themes and wallpapers that weren’t your average tired stock photos or sunsets and trees and stuff and I couldn’t find anything I would want to see as a designer on my Blackberry screen…
Which is why I have decided to start MODAberry, which will be a repository of luxury Blackberry themes and wallpapers for designers, creative people and just people with an eye for good aesthetics who also happen to have Blackberries.
It would be great to collaborate with designers on this to create what I would like to become the Blackberry equivalent of the awesome Poolga.com.
I’ll keep you posted on it, but if you’re interested, please get in touch using the contact form above!
